Your customer is disputing one invoice. Maybe it’s a billing error. Maybe you’ve agreed to a payment arrangement. Either way, the invoice is past due, and D365 is about to charge interest on it.
You don’t want that.
The good news is you don’t have to turn off interest for the whole customer. You can exclude individual invoices. The setting is hidden, though, because the field isn’t on the Transactions grid by default. Here’s how to find it.
You’ll add the Interest calculation field to the customer’s Transactions grid. Then you’ll clear the check box on the invoices you want to leave out.
Navigate to Accounts receivable > Customers > All customers. Find the customer in the list and select them.
Click Transactions on the customer record.
This is the part most people miss. The field isn’t there until you add it.
Select Grid to add a field.
Open the Field column filter.
Search for Interest calculation.
Select the Select check box.
Click Update to add it to the Transactions grid.
Select Edit.
In the list, find and select the record you want to exclude.
Clear the Interest calculation check box for each invoice you don’t want interest calculated on.
Click Save.
That’s it. The invoice is now excluded from interest note calculations.
Check the box per invoice. This is invoice-level, not customer-level. If you have several disputed invoices, clear each one.
Add the field once and save your view. After you save your view, you won’t need to repeat step 3 every time.
Document why. Add a note or log it in your collections process. Six months from now, someone will ask why that invoice didn’t get interest.
Run it before the interest run. Make the change before you post interest notes. Don’t wait until after.
As with all new functions and toggles, be sure to test this out in Non-Production first to make sure the system is behaving with your expectations.
It takes about two minutes once you know where the field lives. Add it to the grid, clear the box, save.
